Research question: Does having a university degree have an effect ont he power over life?

Hypothesis: Those who have a university degree feel more power over their life than those who do not have.

In the Variable View window we see that the responses are not coded as 0 and 1 so we recode them.

Our new variable will be: 0- No university degree 1-Has a university degree

1,6% of the variability in how much power people feel over their life is explained by the fact that someone has a university degree or not. Thus, having a university degree does not have a huge effect on the level of power over life (p=0,000).

The average level of power that people who have no university degree feel over their life is 6.35. The difference in average in the level of power that people feel over their life is 0.804. So, one that has a university degree has 0,804 points higher on average than one who does not have. Thus, the result supports my hypothesis, stating that “those who have a university degree feel more power over their life than those who do not have” (p<0,001).
